2026 Trans Am Cup Series Calendar Finalised
After a lengthy delay, the 2026 Trans Am Cup Series Calendar has been finalised with organisers announcing the popular rear wheel drive V8 powered American Muscle Car Series will see back to back weekends at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne by adding the sixth round of the series to the SRO program.
While originally announcing a final round at Phillip Island, a date clash with Supercars resulted in the hunt for another circuit and date and while back to back weekends isn’t the most ideal outcome, Category Manager Matt MacKelden said he was pleased the series was welcomed back to SRO with open arms.
“It’s disappointing we won’t be appearing at Phillip Island as it’s an iconic high speed track our teams, drivers and fans love, however when Supercars changed the date of the BP Adelaide Grand Final it unfortunately conflicted with our scheduled Phillip Island round and Phillip Island circuit organisers were unwilling to change dates to a weekend that suited all parties, so we were left with no choice but to look for an alternative,” said MacKelden.
“The teams will now bump in for the SRO round and stay on track to prepare their cars ready for the next weekend with Supercars meaning less travel and logistics costs for teams and we’re grateful to Adrian Coppin and the SRO group for welcoming us back to a familiar home at the Shannons Speed Series.”
The Trans Am Series has been a regular feature on the SpeedSeries platform in the past and Adrain Coppin, Head of Events and Commercials at SRO said he was pleased to welcome the 525 horsepower V8 beasts back for Sandown.
“It’s fantastic to have the Trans Am Cup Series confirmed to join the Shannons Speed Series at Sandown Raceway later this year as it’s a fan favorite and always puts on an entertaining show,” said Coppin.
“Trans Am has long had a place on the Shannons SpeedSeries and it remains a part of the family and always adds quality racing with big fields and big names driving so it’s a great boost to our final round.”
Round six of the Trans Am Cup Series will now take place on October 30th – November 1st, followed by the seventh and final round for the series a week later with the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 November 6th – 8th.
