Slade Seeks Trans Am Return

RETIRED from full-time Supercars competition, Tim Slade is eyeing adding some more dates to his motorsport diary this year – but not in a Supercar.

The former PremiAir Racing full-timer, who pulled the pin on being a ‘main gamer’ at the end of last season, is working on a deal to run selected rounds of the Trico Trans Am Series this year.

His plan involves driving one of The Racing Academy’s cars at the Hidden Valley round supporting Supercars in June and potentially the season-closer at the Adelaide Grand Finale in November.

“I’m keen to do it and working on putting together the package to make it happen,” Slade said this week.

“I’m working on putting together a group of partners to bring it all to fruition. It’s a great category and cost-effective when you compare it to other categories out there at the moment.

“Trans Am is a cool class, there’s plenty of good drivers in it and it’s grown so much this year. It makes so much sense.

“I’ve worked with The Racing Academy guys for a while now and there’s quite a few there on that team that I worked with during my time at Brad Jones Racing.”

Slade was on site at the opening Trans Am round in Tasmania as driver coach for The Racing Academy squad and its drivers Blake Tracey and Cameron Laws.

The two-time Supercars race winner rolled up his sleeves too, joining the rest of the crew in repair work to get the team back on track after engine dramas for the former and crash damage for the latter.

Slade is no stranger to the Trans Am Series from behind the wheel either.

He drove for The Racing Academy in the category in 2023 and competed in a selection of rounds last year in a Breeze Racing Mustang prepared by Garry Rogers Motorsport.

Slade will return to Supercars later in the year to co-drive the #10 Bendix-backed, Matt Stone Racing-run Camaro alongside Nick Percat at The Bend enduro and Repco Bathurst 1000.

The Trico Trans Am Series returns to Mount Panorama with the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour over the Easter long weekend, with further details available at bathurst6hour.com.au.
