No Team Orders at GRM in Title Battle

Garry Rogers Motorsport teammates James Moffat and James Golding are free to race each other as the Trico Trans Am title race resumes this week.

Reigning champion Moffat is 41 points clear of both Golding and TFH Racing’s Todd Hazelwood after Round 4 of 7.

Jordan Boys (The Racing Academy) is also within 50 points of the lead, making for a four-way fight heading into Queensland Raceway on August 2-4.

Thereafter, there’ll be a long wait until a mega double-header to finish with Trans Am’s final two rounds coming at the Bathurst International (November 8-10) and Adelaide 500 (November 14-17).

The emergence of some stiff competition has not swayed GRM director Barry Rogers to consider imposing team orders between Moffat and Golding.

“Bieber (Golding) has gotten going pretty well in these cars from the start, he seems to like the looseness of them and he is obviously driving very, very well in all disciplines at the moment,” said Rogers.

“No doubt I suppose at some point they’ll be pretty close together on the track with each other, but they know what the rules are here and have just got to respect each other.

“There’s certainly no direction from us with regards to team orders or anything like that. We just want the guys to race hard, race fair.

“Hey, occasionally things come unstuck probably similar to what happened with Jimmy and Sladey (Tim Slade) at Tailem Bend, things can happen, but we just really want to see some good racing and hopefully the two of them are fighting it out at the end.

“But Todd and Jordan are coming and their teams that they run with.

“I mean we’ve had a bit of a headstart on some others, obviously the input of Marcos Ambrose over time, really getting an understanding of these cars early got us a bit of a jumpstart on most, but they’re all coming pretty hard at the moment so we need to be at the top of our game.”

GRM will have a change to its five-pronged driver roster at QR, with Brett Holdsworth taking over from Slade. Its other two Mustangs are driven by 2021 runner-up Edan Thornburrow and rookie Tom Davies.
