2025 Trico Trans Am title to be decided on the streets of Adelaide

Todd Hazelwood and Nathan Herne will compete at this weekend’s BP Adelaide Grand Final for the 2025 Trico Trans Am title with both former series Champions relishing the opportunity for a street fight.

Herne narrowed the margin to just 75 points after winning Round 6 at Mallala Motorsport Park last weekend while defending 2024 Champion Hazelwood, had an usually quiet weekend. 120 points are available to either driver across the weekend but Herne will need to replicate his Mallala form and Hazelwood have another challenging weekend for the local Lismore driver to become a 3 time Trico Trans Am Champion.

29 Trans Am cars are entered for the final round with WA drivers Clint Rayner and Jason Pryde joining the field while Nick Lange, Diesel Thomas, Tommy Smith and Edan Thornburrow (subbing in for James Golding) add to an already quality field.

Paul Morris will step up to the class after successfully running TA2 races at Queensland Raceway and Mallala earlier in the year and will be joined by other famous names in Richards (Clay) and Bargwanna (Ben).

Young gun Cody Maynes-Rutty returns after sitting out Mallala and will do so in a brand new Racing Academy Mustang and will race alongside Mallala Pro Am winner Cameron Laws and the inform Blake Tracey making it four cars on the grid for the NSW squad as Tommy Smith swaps from power house TFH Racing to the Racing Academy.

Edan Thornburrow is making a return to the series after spending time in the USA racing TA2 while GR Cup front runner Tyler Cheney will take the wheel of his father Graham’s IES Camaro as he makes his Adelaide debut.

Jordan Cox will be hoping for a strong round after suffering an engine failure at Mallala as will Alice Buckley who made a quiet return last weekend after sitting out the last 11 weeks with an arm injury suffered at Tailem Bend.

WA Young Gun Chase Hoy has spent the week between rounds chasing Great Whites off the SA coast but will hope for better results on the race track as not a shark could be found.

Track action gets underway on Thursday with two practice sessions at 8:00am and 10:35am, followed by qualifying at 4:05pm local time. Racing begins with Race One on Friday at 12:05pm, Race Two on Saturday at 9:00 am, and Race Three on Sunday at 11:30am.

All Trico Trans Am sessions from Friday-Sunday will be live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports.

QUOTES

Nathan Herne #29 BlueGold Industries Ford Mustang

“Mallala is all wrapped up and we’re thrilled to come away with the round win. There’s been a huge amount of change happening behind the scenes between events as we plan for next year, and the new procedures and processes we’ve put in place have already started to pay off last weekend.”

“It was a really strong outing for the whole team, and we’ll be pushing hard to put some pressure on Todd heading into the final round. We’re excited to see what we can brew up for Adelaide this weekend.”

Todd Hazelwood, #1 TFH Hire Ford Mustang

“Mallala turned out to be a tougher weekend than we expected. We struggled to get on top of the setup, and with the rapid-fire format of three races in one day, it’s incredibly hard to recover when you start on the back foot.

Despite that, we’re heading into Adelaide with plenty of confidence. We grabbed pole by six-tenths there last year, and it’s a circuit I really enjoy, the event, the atmosphere, everything about it. I’m definitely excited and motivated to finish the year on a high, wrap up the Championship, and hopefully go back-to-back with the team at TFH Racing.”
