Lights to Flag Victory for Golding

James Golding has converted his blistering qualifying pace into a lights to flag victory in race one of Trico Trans Am Series at Sandown Raceway this afternoon, while Aaron Love took his first Trans Am podium with a fine second place in his Camaro with Jordan Cox rounding out the top three in the GRM Schaeffler Mustang.

A short safety car period was required to retrieve the stricken LMCT Mustang of James Moffat which unfortunately ground to a halt after suffering radiator damage and but it was Golding again that got the jump on the restart and despite running wide into turn one held off the fast-charging Love and Cox.

Love’s podium in his Hi-Tec Oils Camaro has also broken the 2025 Mustang strangle hold and is the first podium for the Bow Tie since Elliott Barbour at round 2 in Tasmania in 2024.

Series debutant and son of a gun Clay Richards finished in 14th place after starting from the back of the grid, finally getting some real seat time after a torrid first few days into his Trans Am career.

Catch race two and three at 9:20am and 4:05pm live on 7Plus and 7Mate.

QUOTES

James Golding, #31 CTE Ford Mustang

It was a pretty hectic race out there today. We weren’t really sure if the rain was going to come, but luckily it held off. I got a great start and came under a bit of pressure early from my teammate, Moffat, but managed to hold him off. After the safety car, we had a restart and I got a little carried away into Turn 1, just managed to hang onto it! In the end, I came away with the win, so I’m really stoked for the team. Looking forward to carrying this momentum into the two races tomorrow.”

Aaron Love, #45 Hi-Tec Oils Chev Camaro

“It’s pretty cool to get my first Trans Am podium. We’ve been working hard ever since I joined the team ahead of Darwin, so it’s great to see that effort starting to pay off. Coming into this weekend, I had a really clear idea of what I needed to do and how I wanted the car to feel, and that definitely helped us nail a strong qualifying and a clean race. I managed to make a solid pass on Moffat, then put my head down and got on with it. I’m really looking forward to getting back out there for tomorrow’s two races.”
