Moffat Wins The Weekend for the First time Since Adelaide 2024
James Moffat has taken the outright weekend honours for the first time since Adelaide 2024 after wining two out of the three races at Round Three of the Trico Trans Am Series held at the Betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars event at Hidden Valley this weekend.
The LMCT+ Mustang driver was involved in a weekend long arm wrestle with former team mate Nathan Herne but it was Moffat who was the eventual winner from Herne and defending series Champion Todd Hazelwood from TFH Racing.
The weekend was a bruising affair for the field with no less than 4 safety car periods after multiple on track incidents, the most serious being the frightening crash of Des Collier at the beginning of race three.
Collier received side to side contact between turns two and three from series debutant and Cooldrive Supercars team owner Tim Blanchard that resulted in the TFH Mustang slamming the wall in the same place Supercars driver Lee Holdsworth in the Team 18 Commodore sustained serious injuries after a similar contact but despite the 160kph crash, Collier walked away with only bruising and a chipped tooth, however same can’t be said for the car which after initial inspections looks to be a write off.
In a little bit of good news for the TFH Racing team, Josh Thomas took the outright win in the Pro Am results with young Qld’s in a rich vein of form which saw him take an outright podium at the recent TA2 Muscle Car Series round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

“It was a great weekend, coming away with a couple of wins and the overall round victory. After the challenges of the first two rounds this season, it was incredibly rewarding to finally capitalise on the speed we’ve had all along but hadn’t been able to fully showcase until now.”
“This time, we found ourselves on the right side of good fortune, and with strong pace across the entire weekend, everything came together. It’s a real credit to the team’s hard work and persistence, and we’re excited to carry this momentum forward.”
Des Collier, #63 TFH Racing Ford Mustang
“Overall, the weekend went pretty well. We were a bit off the pace in practice, but the team worked hard, and we managed to find some speed gaining three seconds by qualifying. In Races 1 and 2, we kept making forward progress, which was a positive sign of the strides we’re making.”
“Race 3 started strong, but unfortunately, we got sent into the fence. The chassis is pretty much done, so we’re now evaluating our options whether to repair this car or look at sourcing a new one. Either way, we’ll regroup and come back stronger.”
Josh Thomas, #69 TFH Racing Ford Mustang
“It was a great weekend in the Trans Am Series. We’re thrilled to have taken the ProAm class win, and finishing 9th overall competing with such a strong field of talented drivers was a fantastic result for our team. Everyone worked hard, and we’re really proud of what we achieved.”
