Golding on pole with massive lap
JAMES Golding is $1,000 richer after claiming the Trico Pole Award at Mount Panorama, with a massive lap at the conclusion of Trico Trans Am qualifying.
In a red-flag-interrupted session, Golding (CTE Mustang) nailed his second hot lap, which shot him to the top of the time charts with a time of 2:09.1637sec, some 0.3775sec faster than the field.
Nathan Herne (BlueGold Industries Mustang) was primed to claim pole until Golding’s late lap, ultimately having to settle for second on the grid.
Third fastest for the session was series leader Todd Hazelwood (TFH Racing Mustang) from James Moffat (LMCT+ Mustang), Nash Morris (Norwell Motorplex Mustang), and Jarrod Hughes (IES Motorsports), the top performing Camaro and the first of the 16 TFH Hire TA2 Muscle Car Series Presented by Maritimo Luxury Yachts entries in the field.
Blake Tracey (Auto Openers Mustang) impressed in seventh, ahead of Elliot Barbour (Shure Racing Camaro) and Tom Davies (GRM Mustang).
The opening 15-minute leg of qualifying featured cars that were in the lower half of practice times from Friday, with Jordan Cox (Schaeffler Mustang) topping the charts with a time of 2:11.5409sec, which placed him tenth overall.
Cox, however, ended the session in the Murray’s Corner gravel trap after only setting one flying lap time.
In the hotly contested Pro-Am ranks, Joshua Thomas continued his strong Friday form by logging the 18th fastest time to lead the class.
Elsewhere, the opening lap of group two qualifying was red-flagged when Josh Haynes spun the Herzog Steel Mustang at The Cutting, which relegated the reigning TA2 champion to 41st on the grid for race one.
Jason Pryde (JPM/Waltec Motorsport Camaro) earlier suffered a lurid slide into the sand at The Chase, which curtailed the first session with three minutes left on the clock.
The racing action for the Trico Trans Am Series at Mount Panorama kicks off at 2:05pm, with the opening 45-minute-long race for the weekend, while tomorrow’s finale is set for a flag drop at 9:55am.
Today’s race will be telecast on SBS One, Fox Sports and Kayo, with tomorrow’s encounter to be shown on Fox Sports and Kayo.
