Morris: Hands dirty and elbows out

FOR second-generation racer Nash Morris, The Trico Trans Am Series is the perfect training ground for the next generation of racers, with the category bringing together a mix of eager up-and-comers matching it with the sport’s elite.

Son of Bathurst 1000 victor Paul Morris, Nash’s motorsport journey in 2025 is seeing him once more step behind the wheel of a diverse range of machinery, including a Super2 Mustang and a Porsche in the GT4 series.

However, in the Trans Am Series, Morris can personally get involved in the preparation of his car, while also having the chance to get his elbows out on the racetrack.

This year, the Norwell Motorplex driver has partnered up with Charlie Nash out of the Tickford Autosport stables, with the young guns having a point to prove.

“You’ve got a bit of a yardstick with guys like Golding, Hazelwood, Moffat, obviously if you are beating them, you are doing a good job,” said Morris.

“So that’s the goal, be in front of everyone, but it’s not as easy as it has been in the past couple of years, I’m not saying that against anyone else, but even last year, we saw there was crazy competition, it just keeps getting better and better.

“I love it that we can run it with not as many people as other categories do, basically we have a mechanic on each car, a couple of floaters, but I like to get my hands dirty and work on the car too.

“So that’s the great thing about them, they’re not overly complicated, and they’re not overly expensive too, so you can race hard, and it’s not going to cost you a whole lot of money if you do rub some panels.”

Next up for Morris is the second round of the season at Mount Panorama Bathurst this weekend, a circuit where he qualified on the front row in 2022.

“It will be crazy, I reckon. You need to qualify well there, and that’s the good thing about it – it’s pretty similar to Supercars; you have to qualify well to stay at the front,” said Morris.

“It’s good with the tyre rule here; you’re not on good tyres the whole time, so you can kind of pick your race where you want to be good; that’s the cool thing about it.”

The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour is set for April 18-20, with further details available at bathurst6hour.com.au.
