Speedway legend ticks Bathurst bucket list

SPEEDWAY racing legend Robbie Farr is making the next step in his transition to circuit racing by ticking off a bucket list item – driving at Mount Panorama Bathurst, as the Trico Trans Am Series combines with the TA2 Muscle Car Series alongside the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour over the Easter long weekend.

After first jumping behind the wheel of a Hi-Tec Oils-backed Camaro at the tail end of the 2024 TA2 season, Farr recently stepped up into the Trans Am Series at Symmons Plains Raceway, where he mixed it with the best of the Pro-Am competitors.

In fact, in the third race for the weekend, Farr claimed top class honours against a 12-deep field, finishing 16th outright from the capacity grid of 32.

With the Trico Trans Ams returning to Bathurst for the first time since November, the opportunity to race on the famed circuit is too good to miss.

“When I first got interested in the class, one of the major attractions was to have the opportunity to go to Bathurst and potentially do some laps in a pretty cool V8 car,” said Farr.

“I grew up watching Bathurst like the rest of us, and it’s a hell of a bucket list item to tick off.

“I’m pumped about Bathurst… but obviously I’m pretty green with my road racing career, so all of the laps help.

“I went there as a kid, and a couple of years ago, I went to the actual Bathurst 1000, and I was amazed at the height changes and how narrow it is; I don’t think TV does that place justice.

“It’s going to be so good to see 40-odd TA2 and Trans Am cars going around there, it should be a great weekend.”

After a career forged on clay, Farr has faced numerous hurdles in the transition to circuit racing.

“There are a lot of challenges, there’s not a lot of crossover with what we do,” said Farr.

“(In speedway) we don’t hard brake, trail brake, change gears and turn right, so it’s pretty much starting from scratch again, but I’m loving the challenge and loving the learning, and as long as I improve every weekend, I’m pretty happy with that.”

Farr’s speedway career stat list makes for incredible reading.

From winning the Australian Sprintcar and Speedcar Championships to winning the World Series Sprincars, the Grand Annual Classic, the President’s Cup, the King’s Challenge, the Krikke Boys Shootout, and the Kings of Wings, he has also claimed numerous state and track championships.

The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour is set for April 18-20, with further details available at bathurst6hour.com.au.
