Hazelwood on Top in Red Flag Affected Practice 2
Trico Trans Am series leader Todd Hazelwood has continued to shine on home soil, leading the way in a shortened final Adelaide practice.
Backing up his Thursday form, Hazelwood was the driver to beat throughout the Friday morning session which had been scheduled to span 25 minutes.
Five minutes was lost in the mid-part of Practice 2 when red flags were displayed to allow Tom Davies’ stricken #42 Mustang and a stray exhaust to be retrieved.
Hazelwood had held sway at that point on a 1m23.2440s from Nathan Herne, Jordan Boys, Edan Thornburrow and James Moffat.
That five remained the lead quintet, albeit in a different order, when a big Turn 8 crash for Mark Bailey brought about an early end to proceedings.
Bailey’s #12 Camaro clipped the inside wall at Turn 8 and was fired hard into the concrete on the outside, before rebounding back to the right-hand-side of the track where it came to rest.
That incident followed several close calls for other drivers, including Domain Ramsey, Tom Hayman, Des Collier, Jason Pryde and Ben Grice.
All told, Hazelwood was fastest on a 1m22.9274s, with Boys ending up second at 0.3783s adrift.
Herne, Moffat and Thornburrow completed the five, followed by Elliot Barbour, Jackson Rice, Grice, Hayman and Brett Holdsworth.
Joshua Thomas was best of the Pro-Am field in outright 11th.
Trans Am will be back on track for qualifying at 11:10am local (11:40am AEDT).
