Hazelwood Continues Rapid Start in Practice 2
Todd Hazelwood’s blistering start to the Trico Trans Am Series round at Queensland Raceway has continued as the form guide strengthened heading into qualifying.
Just as had been the case in the opening session, it was all one-way traffic in Hazelwood’s favour throughout Practice 2.
The TFH Racing star immediately re-established himself as the driver to beat when the session began, setting the best of any first flying laps with a 1m12.0021s.
Hazelwood progressively improved that by almost half a second before pitting, after which time red flags came out as Des Collier’s #63 Mustang became stranded at Turn 3 approximately halfway through the 20-minute session.
That put a halt to proceedings until just three minutes remained, allowing for drivers to at least notch a last two to three laps.
The pointy end of the leaderboard stayed unchanged though, with Hazelwood’s earlier 1m11.5182s standing the test of time.
In a repeat of the Practice 1 results, Jordan Boys was second and Nathan Herne third.
The latter made the most of the Collier-induced stoppage to get his hands dirty, spotted working under his own car in a bid to find gains. He did improve late, but not by enough to overhaul Hazelwood or Boys.
Elliott Cleary and Elliot Barbour rounded out the five, while Collier ended up fastest of the Pro-Am contingent with the 1m13.1374s set prior to his spin.
That put him outright ninth, just clear of Domain Ramsay.
Garry Rogers Motorsport spearheads James Moffat and James Golding finished the session sixth and seventh.
Trans Am qualifying at EVENTelec Race Queensland will take place this afternoon from 4:30pm.
