Surgery Sidelines Grice for Queensland Raceway

Trico Trans Am Series front runner Ben Grice will miss the next round of the popular muscle car series on August 3-4 at Queensland Raceway.

The #03 All American Driveline and Auto Parts Mustang pilot sits 10th in the series points but won’t add to his pointscore in Queensland due to undergoing back surgery later this month.

Grice was originally on target to compete in the round when it was originally scheduled to be held in July, however the re-scheduling of the round to August – a week after his surgery – will force him to the sidelines.

“Physio, chiro and cortisone can only do so much so it became obvious I couldn’t wait any more. But I’m glad my partner and my team have my back,” said the Melbourne-based racer.

“It’s a long recovery after a surgery like this, so all the hard work in the aftermath of it will be the recovery time. It’s all just going to be just a matter of time and waiting it out for it to heal.”

Grice’s back issues largely stem back to an accident at Bathurst in the Toyota 86 Series in 2018.

“I’m hoping to be back in the Trans Am car for the final two rounds at Bathurst and Adelaide,” he says.

“They’re mega-physical tracks so we’ll see how the recovery goes over the next few months.”

The Trico Trans Am Series will head to Queensland Raceway without Grice on August 3-4 before heading to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International on November 8-10, followed by the final round a week later at the VAILO Adelaide 500.
