Advantage Hazelwood as TFH Racing Double Up in Tailem bend

The scoreline in Todd Hazelwood and James Moffat’s Trico Trans Am Series battle at The Bend now sits at 2-1, the TFH Racing pilot winning Race 3 on Sunday morning.

Full results here.

After the tense battles in Saturday’s two races, Hazelwood held off all challengers into Turn 1 and broke Moffat’s challenge with a string of fast mid-race laps.

The gap between them stood at a tick under two seconds when the chequered flag flew.

There was no shortage of battles behind them.

Title challenger James Golding was in the thick of several of them, fighting back to third place across the line after dropping as low as seventh on the opening lap.

But one of his moves – a tap on Ben Grice at Turn 3 that allowed him to take away fifth place on lap 6 – attracted a five-second post-race time penalty that dropped him to fourth place.

Golding’s penalty elevated Nathan Herne to third, having battled bent suspension and a rubbing left-front tyre after contact on the opening lap.

Nash Morris would’ve been in the middle of that pair but slowed from fourth place at the end of lap 13 and limped to the pits to retire.

Grice hung on for fifth ahead of a feisty Jordan Boys, who spent the closing stages battling Elliot Barbour and finally made a move stick on the exit of turn 6 on the final lap.

Elliott Cleary and Tom Davies were next, with Jackson Rice recovering to 10th after starting at the rear of the grid following his early exit from Race 2.

Tim Slade was among that group until he too slowed in the closing stages, eventually cruising to the finish in 17th place.

The fourth and final Trico Trans Am Series race at Race Tailem Bend gets underway at 3:10pm local time.
