Moffat Sets the Pace in Opening Practice at The Bend

James Moffat laid down a clear marker against his title rivals in the opening Trico Trans Am Series practice session at Race Tailem Bend.

Garry Rogers Motorsport driver posted a time that was 0.2 seconds faster than anything his rivals could manage in Practice 1, the chasing pack led by points leader James Golding.

The 20-minute opening hitout ran uninterrupted under clear skies at The Bend, with the full 19-car field making it onto the track across the session.

It was Golding that was on top at the halfway point on a 1m21.0687s from Nathan Herne, Moffat and Tim Slade.

Moffat was the only one of the quartet to improve in the closing minutes of the session, lopping 0.4s off his previous best to leave the benchmark at 1m20.8654s.

Golding, Herne and Slade were next, with Jordan Boys another to set his best time in the final minutes to sit fifth.

Todd Hazelwood was next best in sixth, the last driver to set a time within a second of Moffat’s session-topping best, with Edan Thornburrow, Ben Grice, Elliott Cleary and Elliot Barbour rounding out the top 10.

John Holinger was the quickest of the Pro Am field in 15th, ahead of Mark Bailey, Josh Thomas, Joshua Webster and Chris Pappas.

The Trico Trans Am Series has one more 20-minute practice session at 11:50 local time ahead of Qualifying at 16:05.
