Golding Emerges on Top at Phillip Island
After taking the Trico Pole Award on Friday, James Golding finally saw the top spot on the podium with victory in race three of the weekend at Phillip Island for round three of the Trico Trans Am Series.

A fast starting Nash Morris put the front-row of James Moffat and Golding three wide entering turn one, with Moffat falling backwards through the middle and Golding swooping around the outside to the race lead.
It took less than a lap for Moffat to find his way back past the Supercheap Auto Racing car and back into second place. As the two Garry Rogers Motorsport cars began to pulla way from the pack, Morris showcased his defensive abilities once again as he fended off a series of attacks.
The Racing Academy’s Jordan Boys was first to assault the back of Morris’ car, but was backed up into Tim Slade with whom contact sent Boys spinning off the road on lap two, with Nathan Herne also looping it at the same corner.
Todd Hazelwood was on a charge for TFH Racing, first working his way past Slade on lap four and then piling on the pressure to eventually pass Morris late on in the race. A power steering failure ruined the day for Moffat, who entered limp mode in the closing laps ended up only 13th.
That failure allowed Morris to retain a spot on the podium, which he fought off advances from Elliot Barbour (Pioneer DJ) and a resurgent Boys to maintain. On the final lap of the race contact between Barbour and Boys sent the latter off the road at high speed, which decided their finishing positions of fourth and fifth.
Golding was relatively untroubled out front as he seemingly cruised to his third win in the past five races and earned the overall round victory.
Chris Pappas’ victory in race three secured his first Pro-Am victory, and ended Josh Webster’s run of triumphs in the class.
Round four of the Trico Trans Am Series takes place at The Bend Motorsport Park from May 31-Jun 2, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
