After a lengthy delay due to barrier repairs, the field finally saw the lights go out the better part of 60-minutes after the original schedule. Moffat had the best reaction and was able to swoop around the outside of pole-sitter Golding at turn one.
Further down the pack, drivers were quick to dispel some of their pent-up energy as they fanned out four-wide on the run to turn one.
One of the fastest starters was Nathan Herne, who vaulted his BlueGold Industries Dodge Challenger up five spots to briefly occupy third place on lap three. In a quick response, Elliott Cleary moved back to the podium spot with a move at turn four. With blistered tyres, Herne fell back down the order to end up in eighth.
Moffat and Golding skipped away out front, with the pair trading lap record times up until the penultimate lap of the race. Golding’s 1:33.3898s smashed the previous race lap record of a 1:35.7926s set in 2023.
While Golding was close enough to have a look, the honours went to Moffat for race one – ultimately winning by 1.2711 seconds.
Jordan Boys (The Racing Academy) and Nash Morris (Supercheap Auto Racing) completed the top five. Todd Hazelwood engaged in a spirited battled with Tim Slade, prevailing to take sixth for TFH Racing.
Herne, Elliot Barbour and Tom Davies completed the top 10.
Race two takes place at 11:25am local time, live on 7plus.
