Late Drama Delivers Golding a Maiden Trans Am Victory

James Golding has earned his first career Trico Trans Am Series victory, after late issues cruelly denied Jordan Boys a three-peat at Symmons Plains Raceway.

Boys started from pole position and had a much better start than his first two attempts from pole, but it was still the driver on the opposite side of the grid that led the opening lap. Elliot Barbour managed to wrestle the race lead away with the outside line through turn two, going on to lead the opening handful of laps.

Barbour relinquished the lead after Boys got through at the final corner. Going on to lead comfortably for much of the race. The entertaining Pro-Am battle continued to throw up drama, with Joshua Thomas and John Holinger colliding at the hairpin, with Thomas receiving a 30 second penalty for the incident. Chris Pappas was also turned around after contact with Mark Bailey.

Josh Thomas went on to claim the Pro-Am win in front of a home crowd.

With just a few laps remaining, Boys’ gearbox became jammed in fourth gear, leaving him to limp the car home in sixth position.

In one swift swoop, Barbour and Golding raced past Boys before exchanging positions at the final set of corners where Golding inherited the race lead.

The race ended one lap later, just short of full-race distance, with the re-emergence of grass fires alongside the track.
