Boys Doubles Down in Saturday Sweep

Jordan Boys has continued his electric Trico Trans Am Series form with a second victory in as many races on Saturday in Tasmania.

As he did in the opening race, Boys lost the lead off the start and settled into second place. Elliott Cleary led early on from his teammate, as he hunted a first series victory, but would soon relinquish the lead after a move from Boys at turn six.

The race ran largely trouble free, as drivers jostled for positions. Nathan Herne gained the most places, as he came from the back of the pack to finish in seventh. That was despite bowling it wide on a number of occasions, as he picked his way through.

Chris Pappas had a spin at the hairpin, which handed the Pro-Am lead to John Holinger. Joshua Thomas was on a charge however and took over the Pro-Am lead to claim his first class victory and 15th overall. Holinger and Joshua Webster rounded out the class podium.

The race was brought under the Safety Car for the second time in as many races when the grass was set alight trackside, neutralising the lead Boys and Cleary had built up. The race resumed with a one lap dash to the chequered flag, and there was immediate pressure on Cleary from Elliot Barbour and the chasing pack.

Barbour was able to get up the inside of Cleary at the hairpin, with the pair locked side by side as they ran towards turn six. James Golding, who had climbed to fourth, shadowed Barbour under brakes and followed the Pioneer DJ car through on Cleary to take the final spot on the podium.

Todd Hazelwood also found his way through on the young gun, who crossed the line in fifth after being held out wide through the final two turns.

Race three takes place at 11:20am AEDT tomorrow.
