Boys Claims a Fiery Opening Victory in Tasmania

Jordan Boys was eventually a runaway winner in the opening race of the weekend at Symmons Plains for the Trico Trans Am Series, but the race was punctuated by its fair share of action.

Nathan Herne got the jump off the start, taking the lead from Boys around the outside of turn two. Boys shadowed Herne through the opening laps, eventually taking the lead back under brakes for the hairpin.

Boys’ The Racing Academy teammate Elliott Cleary wasted little time in rising up the order, with a series of excellent passes to earn himself second place and making it a one-two for the team.

Elliot Barbour held on to finish in third for his Pioneer DJ outfit, while early leader Herne was forced to pit with a puncture to his left rear tyre from debris.

Todd Hazelwood was one of the biggest movers, climbing up four places to finish in fourth for TFH Racing. Hazelwood’s TFH teammate Joshua Thomas came together with Josh Thomas at turn six, for the lead in Pro-Am, which sent both drivers off the road.

The accident also triggered a small grassfire, which drew the Safety Car out. With Herne pitting for his puncture under the SC, Boys was untroubled to the end as he etched out a 3.6272 second lead by the chequered flag.

Chris Pappas went on to win in Pro-Am, narrowly edging out John Holinger in a fight to the end.

Points leader James Moffat finished in sixth, while Ben Grice recovered to eighth after his spin in qualifying.
