Dalton stuns in Trans Am qualifying

AWC’s Lochie Dalton will be in prime position for the first National Trans Am Series race on Saturday afternoon after a stunning qualifying performance at Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton.

The Tasmanian logged a session best 1:22.86 to finish four-tenths ahead of The Racing Academies Cody Gilles in second.

All American Driveline’s Ben Grice has put himself in a good position for the opening race by taking out third spot, but will have to be at the top of his game with Phillip Island race winner Owen Kelly alongside him on the second row.

James Moffat was only able to muster fifth in his Team Valvoline GRM Ford Mustang and will have work to do if he wants to extend his series lead by weekends end.

It was a stunning performance from Jackson Rice, who is making his return to the series with Dream Racing Australia, he will start the first race from sixth place ahead of former teammate Tyler Everingham in his The Racing Academy team debut.

Supercheap Auto’s Nash Morris will have work to do from 11th place on the grid, but if Phillip Island has anything to say then it shouldn’t be long before he starts challenging the frontrunners.

The National Trans Am Series will take the track at 3:25pm AEST for the first of three races across the weekend.
