Elliot Barbour aiming high in 2023 Trans Am return
Elliot Barbour will return to the National Trans Am Series in 2023 and he has his sights set on regularly challenging the leaders.
After starting the 2022 season with Dream Racing Australia, Barbour switched mid-year to run his own program which he will continue to do in 2023.
Finishing fifth in the final series race of 2022, Barbour and his team underwent an extensive rebuild of his Chevrolet Camaro in the off-season and is looking to improve his results on a regular basis.
Barbour will reveal the new look to his car at the Bathurst 12 Hour next month ahead of a pre-season test at Winton before loading his Camaro onto the boat to head down to Symmons Plains Raceway for the opening round on February 24-26.

The Victorian says he is not competing to make up the numbers in 2023 with his sights set on consistent podiums.
“When we switched to our own operation last year, it felt rushed and we were underprepared,” said Barbour.
“This year, we are in a much better position. We’ve completely stripped and rebuilt the car. All the panels have been repaired, and every mechanical part that moves inside have been inspected, crack tested and replaced if needed.
“The only thing that hasn’t been touched is the engine, but that is only two race meetings old, so we are happy with that.
“It’s been a good learning curve for us, pulling the car apart. It’s given us a much better understanding of it.
“We really want to have a good crack this year, so we feel that the off-season work will minimise any failures that creep in.
“When we got our head around the car towards the end of last year, we ran around the top five, which was good for 2022, but that’s not where we want to be in 2023. I’m really not there to finish fifth. This year, I want to have a real crack at it.
“If we are talking in December and my best result is fifth, I’ll be disappointed.
“But I’m under no illusions on how competitive it is in this series. There are some good drivers and teams in there, but with the team and partner group that we have put together, I’m confident of giving it a good shake.”
