Trans Am’s Best Drivers at Race Tasmania
The thundering V8s of the National Trans Am Series have provided plenty of excitement during the first two editions of AWC Race Tasmania.
With eight drivers featuring on the podium during the course of the six races held so far, who has risen above the rest to secure their place as the one to beat?
Nathan Herne – Podiums: 6
It should be no surprise the two-time National Trans Am Series winner is currently the benchmark at Symmons Plains. Herne opened up with two wins and a runner up finish in 2021 before delivering another victory to accompany a second place and a third place last year. Herne won’t add to these impressive stats as he takes on the US Trans Am Series in 2023.
Tim Brook, Aaron Seton – Podiums: 3
Seton delivered the big challenge to Herne in 2021, winning the second race of the weekend and finishing runner up in the other two races. It proved Seton’s only appearance at AWC Race Tasmania, but his role was filled by Brook for 2022. Brook picked up third place in the last race in 2021 before winning the opener last year as he followed it up with another victory in the final race of the weekend.
Kyle Gurton – Podiums: 2
Gurton made big leaps in his second season of Trans Am kickstarted by his form at the season opening AWC Race Tasmania. The Dream Racing Australia man took pole position before going on to finish runner up in the first two races of the weekend. Could Gurton be one of the favourites this year?
Brett Holdsworth, Ben Grice, Owen Kelly, Lochie Dalton – Podiums: 1
These four drivers will all fancy their chances of improving upon this stat at the 2023 edition of AWC Race Tasmania. The local favourites will be Kelly and Dalton with the Tasmanians featuring on the bottom step of the podium the past two years. Grice, in his popular All American Driveline Mustang, picked up third place in Race 2 in 2022. It was all the way back in Race 1 in 2021 when Holdsworth earned his podium, starting the season strong in third place.
Will one of these drivers be the standout, or will someone new come along, when Trans Am tackles Race Tasmania from February 24-26.
