Lochie Dalton confirms his spot on the National Trans Am Series grid

Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Lochie Dalton will continue with the reigning National Trans Am Series winning team in 2023, aiming to build on his own impressive rookie campaign last season.

Dalton was impressive towards the end of the season as the Tasmanian finished sixth in the title amid a strong run at Sandown where he was on the podium.

It was his first proper season of circuit racing last year and this season he will run a dual campaign in Super2 as part of Brad Jones Racing’s team.

Having featured as part of a dominant GRM line-up last year, Dalton is eager to make his own mark this season.

“I think last year was a really good learning year, to be surrounded by Nathan and Owen,” Dalton reflected.

“I mean Nathan was nearly in a league of his own last year and so was Owen not far behind. It was a brilliant year learning off those two as well as Garry, Barry, Marcos and the whole crew at GRM, so I’m really excited for this season.”

Excited to lead a new generation of drivers to make the step up to national competition from the Apple Isle, Dalton paid tribute to teammate Kelly.

“There’s been a few years where Tassie has been quiet in regards to drivers, but now it is thriving and especially to be teamed up alongside Owen with everything he has achieved it’s pretty cool,” he said.

“Hopefully we can fly the flag pretty high and do some good things together.”

Confidence continued to build for Dalton last year as he adapted to the GRM Ford Mustang Trans Am and the young gun is expecting to be among the frontrunners in 2023.

“Towards the end of the year I just clicked with the car and I became super comfortable, which resulted in me driving it more on the limit,” Dalton explained.

“A lot of last year we struggled in qualifying to get the most of the tyre as I’d qualify around 10th, then end up on the top five or the podium in the last few races.

“I’d really like to see how much we’ve improved and hopefully we can start at the front, then stay there this year.”

Dalton will open his National Trans Am Series assault on home turf at AWC Race Tasmania on February 24-26.
