Tasmanian young gun to step up into Trans Am
Local fans will have another gun driver to cheer at AWC Race Tasmania with Josh Webster set to make his Turtle Wax Trans Am Series debut at the traditional season opener at Symmons Plains.
A multiple Tasmanian Hyundai Excel Series champion, Webster will make a step up to national competition following fellow Tasmanians Owen Kelly and Lochie Dalton.
Webster will join the field in a recently purchased Chevrolet Camaro, previously driven by Josh Haynes in the TA2 series and to be prepared by Dream Racing Australia for his maiden assault.
Featuring as a competitor at AWC Race Tasmania at its prior two events as part of the Hyundai Excel field, Webster and new Turtle Wax Trans Am Series rival Ben Grice battled for victory at Baskerville back in 2021.
Webster has already got his 2023 program off and running, testing at both Symmons Plains and Baskerville since taking delivery of the Chevrolet Camaro in late October.
Webster’s efforts will be supported by a variety of local businesses rotating throughout his campaign.
An exciting Turtle Wax Trans Am Series field will descend upon Symmons Plains for the third running of AWC Race Tasmania on February 24-26, 2023.
Other classes to look out for include the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and the ever-popular Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters.

“Trans Am is pretty competitive and we’re going to have to put our best foot forward that’s for sure and bring our A game,” said Webster.
“I think the category has made some big steps forward in the past few seasons, so to be joining the series on the mainland will be a step up that’s for sure.
“It’s the ex-Josh Haynes Chevrolet Camaro, which raced competitively in TA2 the last season or so. We’ve had a few test sessions and haven’t really changed a lot. I’ve just been getting used to the car and we’re not that far off the pace.
“We’ve linked up with Dream Racing Australia for this season and I’m sure the car will be a rocketship that’s for sure. That all came about when the team invited us up in July for a test day up at Queensland Raceway and basically it all stemmed from that.
“Testing has been about getting used to the car and there’s definitely more speed to come from future test days, but hopefully at Round 1 we can do something cool.
“It doesn’t happen often debuting at home, but it’s pretty cool to make the step up to a competitive national category class at my home track.”
