Devastating Turtle Wax Trans Am 100 result spurs on Brett Holdsworth for 2023
Although the Turtle Wax Trans Am 100 ended in disappointment it provided a breakthrough for Brett Holdsworth driving the TPS Group/Breeze Holiday Parks Chevrolet Camaro.
A top contender across the weekend, Holdsworth leads into the 2023 Turtle Wax Trans Am Series with good momentum after finishing third in this year’s campaign, which ended at Sandown in September.
Holdsworth qualified third and initially dropped to fourth due to being boxed in at the start, but superior speed ensured he was able to move back to third as he pressured Owen Kelly for second, though he failed to pass the Garry Rogers Motorsport Mustang.
Going one position better in the second heat race to decide the grid for the Turtle Wax Trans Am 100 to score his best result in the season, Holdsworth once again started the finale event of the weekend third.
A great start enabled Holdsworth to keep pace with Nash Morris, Owen Kelly and Ben Grice as he quickly rose to second. After building a margin, a late-race safety car closed the field up ensuring Holdsworth was under pressure for the race’s duration resulting in Kelly tapping the back of the TPS Group/Breeze Holiday Parks Chevrolet Camaro into a spin at Forrest’s Elbow.
Disappointed by the result, Holdsworth is now focused on building on the pace demonstrated at Bathurst into 2023.
“I’ve never driven so hard in my life,” said Holdsworth. I brushed the wall four times over the top of the mountain and left absolutely nothing on the table. To come away with nothing but a hefty repair bill is devastating.
“As soon as we rolled out of the box this weekend we were top two, top three at worst, pace. Ashley Seward and the crew did an amazing job preparing the car. We had pace all weekend and I felt more switched on than ever.
“It was an awful way to end the weekend but the positive is that it was some of the most enjoyable laps I’ve ever had at Bathurst. Every time I gave the wall a little hit it just felt awesome because I knew I was on the limit.
“We did 29 racing laps, pretty much all inside the top three, we just needed to hang on for another half a lap.”
Announcement of Holdsworth’s 2023 sponsors and team will be confirmed ahead of the season.
