Cody Burcher snares maiden Turtle Wax Trans Am Series pole
Young gun Cody Burcher has achieved his maiden Turtle Wax Trans Am Series pole position after edging title leader Nathan Herne at Sandown.
Burcher driving the PBS Specialty Coatings Mustang set a time of 1m 11.659 as Herne finished just 0.0759s short of the benchmark in the Team Valvoline GRM Ford, with the top 12 entries covered by less than a second.
Supercheap Auto’s Nash Morris enjoyed his best qualifying result so far this season in third as he lines up alongside Owen Kelly in the Fujitsu-supported GRM Mustang as he aims to eat into teammate Herne’s series margin.
Following a diff problem yesterday, Jon McCorkindale in the Dial Before You Dig entry qualified strongly in fifth alongside rookie Tom Hayman as he continues his impressive form driving the DiPrinzio Concreting Ford Mustang.
Kyle Gurton did his bid for third no harm to place the Micale Cabinets/Nuveau Group Mustang in eighth considering rival Brett Holdsworth in the TPS Racing Camaro failed to set the lap as Nic Carroll enjoyed a competitive run in eighth driving the Hogan Prestige Cars Dodge Challenger.
Rounding out the top 10, All American Driveline’s Ben Grice was ninth after setting the pace during practice yesterday and led Jett Johnson in the NAPA Auto Parts Mustang making his first appearance at the historic Sandown circuit.
Pioneer DJ’s Elliot Barbour was placed just outside the top 10 driving the lead Chevrolet Camaro.
The final round of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series now enters race mode as the opening encounter is scheduled at 3:05pm AEST live on Stan Sport’s uninterrupted and on-demand, while the event also begins 9Gem’s coverage at 3:00pm AEST.
