Tickled Pink: McCorkindale and team best presented in Sydney

Round 4 of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at Sydney Motorsport Park saw Dial Before You Dig Racing become the latest team to win the Turtle Wax Best Presented Team Award.

The Young, NSW based, family run team is represented by experienced racer Jon McCorkindale, who joined the Trans Am ranks this season after competing in Super2 and previously, Super3.

McCorkindale’s #69 Mustang is one of the most striking cars on the Trans Am grid with its contrasting pink and black livery.

While vinyl wrapped liveries are commonplace in modern motorsport, McCorkindale’s team has stuck to traditional refinishing methods by painting the Mustang’s Five Star Race Car body.

The team has also gone to considerable lengths to perfect the Mustang’s livery, having repainted the car after the opening round at Symmons Plains where it debuted with a black and dayglo red combination.

Dial Before You Dig Racing was recognised as the Turtle Wax Best Presented Team against the award’s criteria of:

  • Car Presentation – livery/aesthetic appeal, overall vehicle finish and decal placement
  • Crew Presentation – team apparel and consistent appearance
  • Pit Garage Presentation
  • General team attitude, organisation and compliance

McCorkindale and the team continue to threaten the series’ established front-runners, having recorded top-5 finishes in five of the last six races.

At Sydney Motorsport Park, McCorkindale topped the weekend’s opening practice session and was in contention for podium results in Race 1 (fourth, less than 0.3s behind third-placed Brett Holdsworth) and Race 2 (running third until striking debris which blocked the car’s radiator intake, necessitating a mid-race pitstop).

The Super3/V8 Touring Car race winner charged to sixth in Race 3 from 18th on the grid.

McCorkindale sits seventh in the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series standings ahead of the fifth and penultimate round at Queensland Raceway on August 5-7.
