Tim Brook secures victory in Turtle Wax Trans Am Series finale

Two out of three isn’t bad for Tim Brook after taking the third and final race for Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at AWC Race Tasmania.

Brook led Herne from the start, but there was action from the start as Cody Burcher and Ben Grice collided at Turn 2, with both spinning.

Gurton continued to trail the two continuing his impressive form demonstrated up during the weekend up to that stage, but a spin at the Symmons Plains hairpin dropped him to 10th before climbing to seventh.

This elevated local Lochie Dalton to fourth in the GRM Ford Mustang as fellow rookies Dalton Ellery and Jett Johnson continued in the top five.

However, a thrilling battle between Brook and Herne for the win was cut short as debutant Mike Rowell crashed exiting Turn 3 resulting in the race ending under safety car.

This gave Dalton, Ellery and Johnson a perfect end to their weekend’s by achieving top five finishes. Ellery’s was particularly impressive after a broken axle during Friday practice.

Brett Holdsworth finished as the best Chevrolet Camaro in his Ashley Seward Motorsport example to be sixth from Gurton, Edan Thornburrow, Nash Morris and Hugh McAlister.

Brook secured the round victory with his two race wins ahead of Herne, while Gurton took his second podium finish after scoring his first at Phillip Island last year.

It’s tight at the top as Brook on 192 holds a two-point advantage from Herne and Gurton is a further 10 behind.

Now the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series heads to Phillip Island on March 18-20 as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.
