Tim Brook wins maiden Turtle Wax Trans Am Series race

TRADIEPAD Wall Racing’s Tim Brook has taken his maiden Turtle Wax Trans Am Series win in mixed conditions at Sydney Motorsport Park.

It was an action packed affair as rain fell just prior to the start of Race 1, as Brook started from pole alongside Dream Racing Australia Team Valvoline’s Nathan Herne.

Brook fell to third at the start as Herne and Turtle wax Trans Am Series debutant Jason Bargwanna entered Turn 1 side-by-side, however the Valvoline Dodge Challenger spun multiple times leaving Waltec Motorsport’s Aaron Tebb nowhere to go as the two collided, leaving the latter to retire.

Taking advantage of the action ahead, Brook slid down the inside of Bargwanna at Turn 2, holding a steady advantage throughout.

Another to make moves during the earlier stages of the race was Ben Grice debuting his new All American Driveline and Auto Parts Mustang to be second, pursuing Brook as pressure grew from behind from Garry Rogers Motorsport’s James Moffat.

A move was made by Moffat at Turn 4, while Bargwanna close behind did likewise at Turn 8 to slot into third on lap 5.

Herne had dropped outside the top 10 after his opening lap incident, but by lap 6 had overtaken Edan Thornburrow for fifth.

This was as high as Herne got, leaving Brook to take a 2.6s victory from Moffat, Bargwanna and Grice.

Rounding out the top 10 were Thornburrow, Kyle Gurton, Dylan Thomas, Zach Loscialpo and Michael Coulter, who climbed seven positions during the earlier stages.

Turtle Wax Trans Am Series is back on track for Race 2 at 3:30pm AEDT and live on Fox Sports 506.
