2m 10s barrier predicted to be broken at the Mountain

Title contender Nathan Herne predicts Trans Am will dip into the 2m 09s at Bathurst later this year, such has been the advancement in the category.

Having completed a recent test, Herne believes the times set at Easter will be significantly bettered when the category participates in the mammoth six-day Bathurst meeting on November 30- December 5.

Title rival Aaron Seton achieved a 2m 10.505s to set the fastest time of the weekend, 0127s better than Herne’s best, however the latter believes the pace will be hotter in November.

“I predict when we go back to Bathurst, we’ll be in the 2m 09s easy if we keep going at the pace we’re going,” Herne said.

“We’ve just got to continue developing these cars at the rate we are and soon enough we’ll definitely be in the 2m 09s next time, then who knows what the future will hold for Trans Am.”

Herne is not only excited to chase the lap record at Australia’s most revered circuit, but to do it on Australia’s biggest week of motorsport is the perfect scenario.

“It’s going to be a massive festival for motorsport junkies to come in and get their adrenaline fix that we’ve been missing out on for the whole year,” said Herne.

“Trans Am is a class that is growing rapidly, but being part of this six-day Bathurst festival it will be a big moment for the category.

“I think it will skyrocket the interest in Trans Am. It’s an awesome category, the way the cars move around and they’re such basic, simple things it just relates to the general public. They want to see underdogs come through and Trans Am is definitely not short of those.”
