The entrance of Marcos Ambrose marks a new era for GRM

Involved across three categories, Garry Rogers Motorsport is one of the biggest race teams in Australia and has now been bolstered by Marcos Ambrose as its Competition Director.

In an exclusive interview by Mark Fogarty for the current issue of Auto Action magazine, Ambrose detailed his position as well as the changes he hoped to instil across the team’s programs in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and National Trans Am Series.

Ambrose’s involvement has gradually grown since aiding his mate Owen Kelly in his National Trans Am Series during Race Tasmania’s pair of events earlier this year.

Approached by Garry and Barry Rogers to join their team due to his NASCAR experience, Ambrose is unequivocal, yet enthusiastic about further enhancing GRM’s structure.

“They’re holding onto a bit of a monster here,” Ambrose described.

”I think we’re actually in a phase of its already grown, now we’re bringing it back to a more manageable level and to simplify things.

“We’ve had that big growth spurt and we’re getting it back to a balance.”

After starting nearly three-weeks ago in his position as Competition Director, Ambrose is enjoying the opportunity as the effects of his involvement are already resonating within the team.

“My role here at GRM is fantastic,” he enthused. “I’m fighting for the drivers, I’m fighting for the mechanics and the engineers to get what they need to go out there and win races. So I’m very focused on the competition side of things.

“I really enjoy being at this level because it’s what for me makes racing so great. I’ve always been more about the grass roots of motor sport, less about the fanfare.

“It’s just nice to be able to put your skills that you’ve accumulated to use. I’ve had 25 years of professional experience and it’s nice to put those skills back to work.”
