Kubota Racing ready to rumble at Race Tasmania
After a long 12 months, the Kubota Racing Trans Am Team is set to reunite at the first round of the 2021 Championship at the Boost Mobile Race Tasmania event at Symmons Plains Raceway this Australia Day weekend January 24th-26th.
The last time the team raced together was the first round of the defunct 2020 series at the Adelaide 500 where both drivers acquitted themselves well placing 4th (Hugh McAlister) and 5th (Matt MacKelden) overall, but Team Owner and Manager Ian McAlister said that replicating those results may be a difficult task given the downtime of the last 12 months.
“Clearly Symmons Plains is a different beast to the Adelaide street circuit and when we competed there last year, both our drivers had come off a solid year in TA2, but like a lot of people we’ve spent most of 2020 on the sidelines, not even testing, so both of the boys are going in pretty green to this weekend,” said McAlister.
“I think above anything though, we’re all just happy to be back on track and kicking off the inaugural Australian Trans-Am Championship”.
Car #6 driver Hugh McAlister has never raced at Symmons Plains but is looking forward to the challenge of a new circuit.
“Symmons Plains is such a historic track that’s seen so many amazing races over the years and I’m hoping the Trans Am teams can add to that history this weekend,” said McAlister.
“This is the kind of circuit that suits these big horsepower cars so I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions across the weekend.”
Matthew MacKelden, pilot of the #6 Kubota Mustang Trans Am while not a stranger to the Launceston circuit said it been a long time since he’s driven anything there but can’t wait to get back and come to grips with the 525 horsepower rocket.
“I love Symmons Plains and Tasmania as a whole so I couldn’t be happier to be kicking off 2021 there”, he said.
“ARG and the Rogers boys have done an awesome job getting all of us back on track so early, not to mention the Tasmanian Government as well so I think it’s important we all put on a good show when we get there.”
The National Trans-Am championship will feature the races across the Australia Day long weekend and can be seen on the screens of Seven including 7mate and streaming app 7plus.
